چکیده
In this paper intelligent search technique of variable structure learning automata (VSLA) has been used to solve single machine total weighted tardiness job scheduling problem. The goal is investigating reduction in delays result in late execution of the jobs after specified deadline as well as reducing the time required to find the best execution order of the jobs. For this reason, fixed structure learning automata and genetic algorithm approaches has been studied and then a new scheduling approach called VSLA-Scheduler has been proposed by employing variable structure learning automata technique. In order to identify strengths and weaknesses of the proposed method, its performance is compared with other intelligent techniques. In this regard, for performance evaluation of the proposed method and comparing it with other methods, computer simulations have been used. Finally, the results produced by the proposed and previous algorithms have been compared with the best solutions in OR library. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm's performance (VSLA-Scheduler) is more acceptable than other methods.

Minimizing Total Weighted Tardiness with Drop Dead Dates in Single Machine Scheduling Problem
This paper deals with minimization of tardiness in single machine scheduling problem when each job has two different due-dates i.e. ordinary due-date and drop dead date. The drop dead date is the date in which jobs’ weights rise sharply or the customer cancels the order. A linear programming formulation is developed for the problem and since the problem is known to be NP-hard, three heuristic...
متن کاملSolving the Single Machine Problem with Quadratic Earliness and Tardiness Penalties
Nowadays, scheduling problems have a considerable application in production and service systems. In this paper, we consider the scheduling of n jobs on a single machine assuming no machine idleness, non-preemptive jobs and equal process times. In many of previous researches, because of the delivery dalays and holding costs, earliness and tardiness penalties emerge in the form of linear combin...
متن کاملMinimizing Total Weighted Tardiness in a Flexible Flowshop Environment Considering Batch Processing Machines
Scheduling in production environments is used as a competitive tool to improve efficiency and respond to customer requests. In this paper, a scheduling problem is investigated in a three-stage flexible flowshop environment with the consideration of blocking and batch processing. This problem has been inspired by the charging and packaging line of a large battery manufacturer. In this environmen...
متن کاملA Novel B and B Algorithm for a Unrelated Parallel Machine Scheduling Problem to Minimize the Total Weighted Tardiness
This paper presents a scheduling problem with unrelated parallel machines and sequencedependent setup times that minimizes the total weighted tardiness. A new branch-and-bound (B and B) algorithm is designed incorporating the lower and upper bounding schemes and several dominance properties. The lower and upper bounds are derived through an assignment problem and the composite dispatching rule ...
متن کاملAn improved memetic algorithm to minimize earliness–tardiness on a single batch processing machine
In this research, a single batch processing machine scheduling problem with minimization of total earliness and tardiness as the objective function is investigated. We first formulate the problem as a mixed integer linear programming model. Since the research problem is shown to be NP-hard, an improved memetic algorithmis proposed to efficiently solve the problem. To further enhance the memetic ...
